Special print edition launched for Christian Aid 70th Anniversary
"Capturing The Essence"
10 photographers donate images to benefit people in poverty
Christian Aid marks its 70th anniversary with an online auction, featuring donated prints from some of the world’s most prestigious photographers (all the images were taken on assignment with Christian Aid, helping to highlight poverty and injustice around the world). Senior photographic editor at Christian Aid, Joseph Cabon, commented, "The use of ‘social documentary’ photography is a vital tool in allowing us to convey powerful messages, while maintaining the dignity of those whose stories we are trying to tell."
In recognition of Tim's commitment to Christian Aid's work The Tim Hetherington Trust and Yossi Milo gallery have issued a new edition of an image showing the continuation of life in Southern India where 750 homes were destroyed by the massive Asian Tsunami only months earlier.
The auction offers work by some of the world's leading photographers including Don McCullin, Sebastiao Salgado, Chris Steele-Perkins, Mike Goldwater, Gideon Mendel, Anastasia Taylor-Lind, Olivia Arthur, Stuart Franklin and Tom Stoddart.
"These great photographers are adept at determining not only that there may be a story to be told in a place and time but also that many more stories may be discovered, seen or imagined. They are skilled at turning chaotic, disordered scenes into photographs that convey loss, heartbreak, happiness and much more." (Joseph Cabon)
Bidding is live from 6 to 20 November 2015 and we encourage everyone to take a look at the work and contribute a bid at the Paddle8 website.
