Tim Hetherington
1970 — 2011
Photographer, human rights advocate, journalist, filmmaker, communicator
“I want to record world events, big History told in the form of a small history, the personal perspective that gives my life meaning and significance. My work is all about building bridges between myself and the audience.”
The Tim Hetherington Trust mission is to promote the continuation of Tim’s vision by promoting the continued use of his work and by supporting new work by other artists. The Trust encourages the use of Tim’s work by individuals and institutions engaged in humanitarian endeavours using purposeful story-telling and the arts in general.
In 2017 the Trust gifted Tim's professional archive of images, journals, equipment, records and ephemera to the Imperial War Museums, UK, where it is woven into modern history and will be accessible for research by future generations.
The Tim Hetherington Trust continues its grant programme to encourage the initiation of new work with the annual Visionary Award for innovation in visual storytelling and the Tim Hetherington Award for documentary filmmaking, which is made in collaboration with Sheffield Doc/Fest and Dogwoof Films.
