Shortlisted for the Visionary Award from the Tim Hetherington Trust 2020

CESAR DEZFULI shortlisted for Passengers – The first of two stories about Mediterranean migrants in the 2020 shortlist, Passengers traces the stories of 118 people rescued from a rubber boat in August 2016.  Cesar Dezfuli has located 105 of the migrants and interviewed 63 where he found them scattered across Europe.  By sharing insights into their specific stories the project reveals the reasons that led them to leave their homes and builds understanding of the wider diaspora of people who have risked everything including life itself to escape unbearable circumstances.  Built around images, maps, handwritten texts and objects belonging to the migrants, the project will manifest online and in physical exhibitions that will bring the viewer face to face with people who until now have been faceless.
