Flint Is A Place 

Flint, Michigan has somehow lost its geographic identity as the name assumed metaphorical significance as a place of decline, defeat and despair in every aspect of media representation.  Canapari’s personal mission to redress this narrative has run for five years in what he describes as an experiment in visual journalism.  The range of media runs from newsprint to virtual reality, incorporating graphic design and data visualization each adding dimension to the core of the story which is expressed in the lives of Flint residents.  Attitude rather than activity defines Canepari’s journalism, triangulated through the various media to bring the viewer/participant into heart of he experience which is at once pained yet joyful.
