Suffering Through The Eyes of War: War Photography by Tim Hetherington
The importance of Tim’s work on American soldiers acts as a visual document of the realities of war in all of its complexities. The documentary ‘Restrepo’ along with the images presented in the book ‘Infidel’, continue to capture the attention of audiences young and old, soldier and civilian because of its power and relevance to the subject of conflict and humanity. In commemoration of the 5th anniversary of Tim Hetherington’s death The U.S Air Force Academy is hosting an exhibition of Tim’s work titled, ‘Suffering Through The Eyes Of War: War Photography by Tim Hetherington’.
The exhibition will run from March 7th till April 14th 2016. Alongside the exhibition, there will be guest speakers talking about Tim’s work, such as Professor Emma Powell from Colorado Collage, who will be talking on March 8th, and Sebastian Junger, a close collaborator of Tim’s and the director of ‘Which Way is the Front Line from Here: The life and time of Tim Hetherington’ on April 12th.
Students from the Academy will be invited to view the exhibit and discuss it with their class. The Air Force Academy itself is both a military organization and a university. Much of the academy is set up like most of Air Force bases, but the superintendent, commandant, dean of faculty and cadet wing are set up in a manner resembling a civilian university. The exhibition of Tim’s work will be presented in the Permanent Professors Art Gallery on the third floor at Fairchild Hall.
