Visionary Award Nominee 2020: TURJOY CHOWDHURY
Shortlisted for the Visionary Award from the Tim Hetherington Trust 2020
TURJOY CHOWDHURY shortlisted for Genocide’71 – A Memory Map a creative research project that is finding and interviewing some of the few remaining survivors of a scarcely documented genocide that was a bloody precursor to the foundation of modern Bangladesh. Structured around an interactive map and using urban mapping techniques, forensic architectural analysis, augmented reality, point cloud and projection mapping the project will collate first hand testimony and historical evidence as a surviving testament to the estimated three million dead and hundreds of thousands who were tortured or raped when in 1971 the Pakistani military and their collaborators overran the territory that subsequently became independent Bangladesh.
