Shortlisted for the Visionary Award from the Tim Hetherington Trust 2020

DANIEL CASTRO GARCIA shortlisted for I Peri N’Tera, the second of two stories about Mediterranean migrants in the 2020 shortlist, I Pera N’Tera is an ongoing, collaborative, multimedia project challenging the visual culture and political rhetoric used to address the migrant/refugee crisis in Europe. Since 2017 Daniel Castro Garcia has been working with twelve unaccompanied minors who were rescued from the sea and the project will stay in touch with the boys as they transition to adulthood in Paris Naples and Barcelona.  The project challenges conventional media tropes about “the other”” as it details the boy’s daily challenges to find legal work permits, housing permits and bank accounts, and the dangerous Mafia run black market that threatens their future even as it works to secure their present.
